Hi! This is me, Gabby Malcuit (mal-kwee)– a Sugar Land, TX photographer specializing in newborns and maternity through the first year serving the Sugar Land, Houston, Richmond, Missouri City, Stafford, and surrounding areas. I’m a Baylor Bear, wife to a musician, mother to 3 girls, and Sugar Land resident of over 20 years. The beach, Starbucks, Pinterest, making lists, and daydreaming are some of my favorite things.
While I’ve enjoyed everything that I’ve been a part of through photography, I’ve realized that my true passion is for newborns. Newborn features are so different and tiny in those first days. Babies grow and change so quickly. As a mother, I’ve seen the sleepless days and years go by so fast. I understand how important it is to record them.
“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” –Karl Lagerfeld
The first photography class I took was in high school back in the days of film SLR’s and dark rooms. In my younger years, I preferred to be the one to have my photos taken by photographers. This all changed with the birth of our first daughter.
My goal was to document our daily lives through blogging and photography. I received my first DSLR as a gift from my husband. After completing a 4 week basics of photography class in one day, I became a woman obsessed. Every book the Fort Bend Library System had to offer was borrowed and read. I read photography blogs. Then watched YouTube videos. I purchased all online classes and ebooks I could find. Practice happened almost all day every day by taking photos every where we went. I loved to soak up all the knowledge I could.
Daily life was shared online with friends and family through social media and my blog, and friends began to take notice of my photos. I had no intention on starting a business at the time and only wanted to take the best photos I could of my family. However, I had a friend visiting from out of town to see family and asked if I could take photos for them. I insisted I refer her to someone professional, and she insisted that I do the shoot. Even though I didn’t share or advertise the images, more friends inquired over the next year, and I decided to get my first website and plan a legitimate business.
I built a portfolio and thought I would do maybe at most 1 session a week. Business grew, and I was more blessed than I could have ever imagined. Thanks so much to my friends, family, clients, and supporters over the next years.
At this time I was shooting everything. This included seniors, pets, families, babies, children, parties, weddings, and more. I was very thankful to have so many who wanted me to capture their memories for them. At the same time, I found myself needing balance and more time with my own family who had first inspired my love for photography.
Then I decided to specialize in newborns and families. I focused my education to sharpening my skills in working with these delicate little people.
