Hi! I’m Gabby Malcuit (pronounced mal-kwee). I’m a Baylor Bear, wife to a musician, mother to 3 girls, and photographer located in Sugar Land, Texas. I love 90’s pop music, Starbucks, Pinterest, making lists, and daydreaming.
While I’ve enjoyed everything that I’ve been a part of through photography, I’ve realized that my true passion is for newborns. Their features are so different and tiny in those first days, and they grow and change so quickly. As a mother, I’ve seen the days and years go by so fast, and I know how important it is to record them.
“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.” –Karl Lagerfeld
I took my first photography class in high school back in the days of film SLR’s and dark rooms, but in my younger years, I preferred to be the one to have my photos taken by photographers. This all changed with the birth of our first daughter.
I documented our daily lives through blogging and received my first DSLR as a gift from my husband. I took a 4 week day basics of photography class in one day and became a woman obsessed. I borrowed every book the Fort Bend Library System had to offer, read photography blogs, watched YouTube videos, purchased online classes and ebooks, took photos every where we went, and soaked up all the knowledge I could.
I shared our daily life with friends and family through social media and my blog, and friends began to take notice of my photos. I had no intention on starting a business at the time and only wanted to take the best photos I could of my family. However, I had a friend visiting from out of town to see family and asked if I could take photos for them. I insisted I refer her to someone professional, and she insisted that I do the shoot. Even though I didn’t share or advertise the images, more friends inquired over the next year, and I decided to get my first website and plan a legitimate business.
I built a portfolio and thought I would do maybe at most 1 session a week. I had no idea how much my business would grow and be blessed by my friends, family, clients, and supporters over the next years.
At this time I was shooting everything. Seniors, pets, families, babies, children, parties, weddings, and more. I was very thankful to have so many who wanted me to capture their memories for them, but I found myself needing balance and more time with my own family who had first inspired my love for photography.
I decided to specialize in newborns and families and focus my education to sharpening my skills in working with these delicate little people.
